Splurging of public money by two Telugu governments

During the last one week there were 2-3 news items which show how the heads of governments are splurging the public money. Chief Minister of the State of Telangana wants to spend government money to fulfill the vows made to several gods  There was a news item in the local news papers stating that the Chief Minister of Telangana Mr K Chandrasekhara Rao and his cabinet took a decision to spend an amount of Rs 10 Crores to fulfill various vows made by their party to various gods during the Telangana movement prior to formation of the state. These vows were made to several gods including Lord Balaji, Kanakadurgamma of Vijayawada, Lord Lakshmi Narasimha of Yadagiri gutta, Chadar at Ajmer Dargah etc.  It is a common thing among Indians (possibly among people of some other countries also) to make vows to the gods and invoke gods at the time of difficulty and one needs to fulfill them once the issue is resolved. However, it is height of madness and splurge to ...

Incredible India - Ramappa Temple, Telangana

Image
There are several temples in India in several states with exotic architecture, carvings etc. One such is located at Palampet which is around 70 KM from Warangal (via Mulugu) in the newly formed state of Telangana (part of Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh). This is a heritage monument recognised by the Archeological Survey of India. https://www.google.co.in/maps/dir/Warangal,+Andhra+Pradesh/Ramappa+Temple,+Palampet,+Andhra+Pradesh+506345/@18.2529547,80.0323757,112045m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x3a33450bd75e4be7:0x9c51d70cf1a16b09!2m2!1d79.9192702!2d17.9744395!1m5!1m1!1s0x3a330e7519eefc6f:0xacc2bee174187d8a!2m2!1d79.942776!2d18.259285?hl=en   Warangal was the captial of the Kakatiya Dynasty which ruled areas from Telangana, Andhra. Some of the famouns rulers were Ganapathideva, Rudrama Devi and Prataparudra. Rudrama Devi was one of the few women rulers in the Indian History and she ruled for around 25-30 years. The rule of Kakatiyas ended after Prataparudra.  Ramappa...

Other side of the Coin - Games Politicians Play

The biggest sensation during the month of February was the drama played in Indian Parliament on the bifurcation bill of the state of Andhra Pradesh. After the episodes of pepper spray, stand-in by the central ministers from the state of Andhra Pradesh and whatever should not be done in a democracy this bill was passed by the Parliament. There was a blackout on TV coverage just minutes before the voting which was attributed to a so called technical failure which came to aid in many such undemocratic activities in the past as well. Anyway, the deed (good or bad based on one's view point) has happened. Now on the one hand a game of claim for the so called good deed for Telangana is being going on by all the parties who have taken part in the voting. In Telangana, it is natural that the KCR led TRS party claims that they are the authors for the justice done to the aspirations of the Telangana and are also showing appreciation on the Congress Party and Madam Sonia for the split. At ...

Andhra and Telangana – Time for development and not recriminations and accusations

Now that the decision for split of the state of Andhra Pradesh has been taken by the Indian Parliament, it is the time for politicians of both states and more particularly those from the rump state of Andhra Pradesh minus Telangana to start thinking constructively and try to make plans for development instead of crying over the spilt milk. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Still politicians are accusing each other like the classic case of Jagan Mohan Reddy and Chandra Babu Naidu that the other is responsible for the current state of affairs. Why I said the classic case of these two politicians is that, whatever happens the moment one of these conduct a press meet the discussion turns on to accusations against the other politician. This is like the famous story about a boy who knows only about a cow and try to introduce the cow into whatever story he is talking about. The people and politicians need of the so called Seemandhra needs to concentrate on starting the overall develop...

Bloggers - Telangana Issues

Of late the most favourite and hottest topic among several bloggers from Andhra Pradesh, India is the demand for the separate Telangana state. Some of these bloggers started sounding similar to the political leaders from the region they are from like either Telangana or Seemandhra. This nomenclature again is from the political leaders of Telangana. But those leaders themselves are not exactly clear who will be the people of Telangana and the outsiders. Mr. KCR uses one way of identification one day and something else another day. Some other leaders use the sons of the soil concept. But again there is no clarity among them as to who constitute the people of Telangana. It is a fact that after the betrayal of the separate state movement by Mr. Chenna Reddy in 60s, many people from the erstwhile state of Hyderabad (whose districts form Telangana) started moving to other parts of Andhra Pradesh or had family relations through marriages to other parts of the state. Many of the leaders of Tel...
