Wastage of public funds by Andhra Pradesh Government

Andhra Pradesh government has paid an amount of Rs 8 Crores towards interest on Overdraft facility utilised for 5 days from Reserve Bank of India (Central Bank). This happened due to a financial mismanagement / miscalculation by the government. The government released Rs 2067 Crores towards pending incentives for industrial units just 5 days prior to the closure of the financial year. It is understood that these dues are pending for over a decade. This is the news item which has come in the news papers yesterday. What is the motivation to release the entire amount of incentives at one go that too when they were outstanding for over a decade? Second thing is why is it necessary to release these funds at one go when the government is well aware that it does not have sufficient funds in its account in central bank? This is a surprising act by the government which is headed by an experienced Chief Minister, Mr Chandrababu Naidu. But a look at his previous rule, we find that his govern...

What is happening in Andhra Pradesh?

One of the features of Andhra Pradesh (reconstituted state) assembly is that two parties account for nearly 98-99% of the total members in the house with no representation for the party which governed previously. This has happened due to various reasons main being the division of the State into the rump state and the state of Telangana. Telugu Desam which was a main opposition in the undivided state for 10 years came into power with various promises to the people.  Some of the main promises being the loan waiver for farmers & women self help groups, promise of a job for each household, banning of illegal shops selling liquor (known in local parlance as belt shops) and last but not the promise of good governance based on their experience in government (their leader Mr Naidu was a Chief Minister of the undivided state for 9 years and main opposition leader for another 10 years).  Even though the government is constituted and swore in almost two and a hal...

Games politicians play

With only two stages of polling remaining we are now looking at the climax of the fight in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The same set of Modi-Pawan Kalyan - Chandra Babu combine who admitted in Telangana that they were in support of the Telangana now are putting the blame on Congress and YSR Congress for the bifurcation of the state. It is a well known fact that UPA which is currently ruling the country and is expected to go out of the power on 16th May does not have the requisite strength in Parliament to pass the Telangana Bill and the main opposition BJP supported them in both the lower and upper houses for the passage of the bill. Had BJP opposed the bill it would not have gone through ending congress with egg on its face. However had they opposed the bill, BJP would have lost Telangana region but would have gained something in Andhra. May be the gain is not sufficient to offset the loss in Telangana which is why they supported the Telangana Bill. It is ridiculous now by the abov...

Bloggers - Telangana Issues

Of late the most favourite and hottest topic among several bloggers from Andhra Pradesh, India is the demand for the separate Telangana state. Some of these bloggers started sounding similar to the political leaders from the region they are from like either Telangana or Seemandhra. This nomenclature again is from the political leaders of Telangana. But those leaders themselves are not exactly clear who will be the people of Telangana and the outsiders. Mr. KCR uses one way of identification one day and something else another day. Some other leaders use the sons of the soil concept. But again there is no clarity among them as to who constitute the people of Telangana. It is a fact that after the betrayal of the separate state movement by Mr. Chenna Reddy in 60s, many people from the erstwhile state of Hyderabad (whose districts form Telangana) started moving to other parts of Andhra Pradesh or had family relations through marriages to other parts of the state. Many of the leaders of Tel...

Eenadu Article about Jagan

The main article in Eenadu today (6th May) is about the atrocities / irregularities of Mr Jagan and his followers with a title "Kanda (muscle).. Kasu (money).. Khakhi (police)" indicating that they are using all possible means to get elected and Jagan followers have distributed money to the voters twice already and are going to distribute once again. Also the police are implicitly helping him by not checking the vehicles of Jagan's group and even turning blind eye to the manhandling / atrocities of his group. As an outsider, I understand the following from various news sources - Jagan is not a member of ruling party now. In fact he came out of the party after fighting with the top leadership. The Congress party has put a sitting minister against him and his own uncle against his mother. All the ministers of the government are camping in Kadapa and Pulivendula canvassing agaist them. Mr Chiranjeevi and Chief Minister have also canvassed vigorously against him. Mr Chand...
