New Government - New aspirations

Well the Indian elections are over and the so called Maa-Bete ka Sarkar (Government of Mother and Son) swept away by Moditva and Modi wave. This is reminiscent of another time same country around 40 years back. A similar Maa-Bete ka Sarkar (of Indira and Sanjay Gandhi) was swept away by the Janata wave in 1977. If you look at the similarities further the same Garibi Hatao slogan of Indira Gandhi of 1972 was revived in 2009 by the current form of Congress (it was Congress - I then). Looks like history repeats itself. However, hopefully the current government which has a excellent majority will not fritter away the opportunity like the Janata experiment in 1977. Very few of that era are still around like Mr Advani who was a minister in Janata government then. We cannot count on AB Vajpayee who has retired from politics. Another development is the debut of Aam Admi Party on the national level albeit with only 4 MPs. But remember even BJP had only 2 MPs in 1984. May be we expect something like an AAP government in 40 years time?

The new government has a lot of challenges facing it. There is a slow down in the economy which needs revival. Agriculture is no longer a profitable venture (an oft repeated cliche). Tertiary sector which in recent times became a major employer is slowing down. Manufacturing though going up needs further opening up. May be we need to look at taking the third party manufacturing activities in a bigger way than we currently are doing. As a matter of fact BJP is known for its corporate leanings and hence we can expect more action on this front.

One thing for sure is that unlike the earlier government the current government is media friendly and will be highly active on social media. We can expect to see a lot of self promotional activities in the coming time than the earlier government.
