Indian Cricket

Well according to me this is not even a great subject to write about as it is following and churned on all formats of the media and literally 95% people in India follow the same. I used to be one of the 95% earlier (prior to the first scam where Azharuddin & Co were suspended). I lost my interest after the successive scandals. I remember President of BCCI was asked to step down last year itself at the time of controversy regarding the spot fixing (or whatever name it was called) but he came back through back door once again. Now the highest court in India has ordered him to step down and asked Mr Sunil Gavaskar to takeover as a President in the interim along with Mr Shivlal Yadav as the second president.

With due respects to the honourable court and the justices who delivered the judgement, the first part of the judgement is ok as the one being ordered to step down is perceived to be the corrupting influence. My grouse is only with the second part, why Mr Gavaskar? Naturally there will be an immediate question why not him? The requirement to my understanding is one played the game so that he can understand the players issues and should have some administrative experience and should not be controversial. If that is the case there are several players who fit the bill like Gundappa Viswanath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Brijesh Patel to name a few. The court should have laid down these guidelines and should have ordered BCCI to convene a meeting immediately to elect a president on these criteria instead of appointing a specific person as a President.

Games Politicians Play

There is a great politician in the state of Andhra Pradesh who set a record as longest served Chief Minister for the state. He has to his credit being the man who put Hyderabad on the world IT map and developed the infrastructure in Hyderabad. However, the same man grossly neglected the rural folks and lost the election to his arch rival Mr Rajasekahara Reddy. From that point onwards, our man fondly known as Babu is hell bent on coming into power. In 2009, he unveiled a "mahakootami" (grand alliance) with TRS party, two communist parties. However, the alliance almost collapsed by the time it came to seat distribution. Ultimately his arch rival came back to power. He now has a new record of longest serving opposition leader in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Nobody is going to better this record also as the state has been divided into two now.

On the eve of Assembly elections, he is hell bent on getting into power come what may. Initially he said he will not go for an alliance with BJP as they are religious. Now seeing that there is a Modi Wave at most of the places in India, he is now joining the bandwagon. In his ambition to get into power he is inviting every Tom, Dick and Harry from Congress Party and giving them a party ticket to contest for his party, Telugu Desam. In effect the party is now looking like Yellow Congress (Yellow is the colour of his party).

In the public meetings he is going berserk with all kinds of promises. Some of the gems are

- Constructing an airport at all district headquarters
- Vows to provide one job to  each family
- Develop the state of Seemandhara into something like Singapore
- Protect the children and take care of them till they get a job
- Eradicate all the belt shops (a form of illegal liquor shops which actually came into existence when he was chief minister only)
- Introduction of Prohibition (on liquor) (this was reintroduced by him when he came to power)
- Free electricity to farmers (at one point of time farming according to him is useless)

The above are only a few which are repeated regularly but there are umpteen number more over which I feel even he lost track. It looks like that the man feels that he can say whatever he wants and no one cares much which may turnout to be the case if does not control.

Then there is the curious case of leader of the just born party (Jana Sena) deciding that he will / may not contest elections but giving a call to his fans and supporters to vote for Modi. Looks like this man came into politics to support Modi and nothing else. Why I am getting a feeling that Jana Sena may again go the way of Common Man Protection Force (started with great fanfare by the same actor) during his brother's short lived Prajarajyam party.
